If you missed my interview with Maral, this is it. We are talking Art, NFTs and whatever else.

She asked me some great questions, and I just wanted to take a moment to post that interview and give Maral a little recognition for what she does.

She is an amazing community member, photographer, and all-around inspiring good human who highlights and uplifts artists via her “Artists Chats.”

Maral describes herself as a 90s kid from Berlin and a multidisciplinary artist, with work spanning ETH, SOL, and TEZ. Her art moves between mediums like photography and AI, like a memory slipping through time. She’s been searching for world peace, and while maybe just a wishful dream, what she’s created along the way feels like a kind of answer.

Collect Art from Maral:
The gallery below features pieces from both of her styles and includes available works from her two accounts on primary. After the Interview you can see what Maral’s been collecting in the gallery at the end of this post.

Artist Chat Featuring… Me

Thanks for having me Maral.

Maral: What kind of art do you make, and what draws you to that medium or style?

I am a photographer first. I do mess around, experiment with mixing photos in PS, digital collage, or more recently, using AI, but photography is my passion. Experimenting with AI has actually pushed me back into the arms of photography. Don’t get me wrong, AI is fun. But with photography, I just feel more connected to the work. There is a truth there. There are memories within memories. Like even something abstract or a light painting can hold a memory for the photographer that is hidden from the viewer. So I think as AI art leans into the realm of the absurd, fantastical and hyper real I will lean more into real moments wrapped in memories. But, I will always continue to play, experiment, and have fun and do whatever I want. I don’t care how it’s perceived. I’m here for the fun.

The below image is ICM photography from my “Never Ending Lights” Collection

An abstract moment wrapped in a memory. I remember taking this photo after a wedding, it was late, I had a few drinks, and the city was singing.

Maral: Is there a lesser-known aspect of your art that you wish more people paid attention to?

Yes…I’m a storyteller. I played a lot of D&D growing up, and I’ve been blogging since 2008 across different niches. These days, I write about my photography journey on See Imagery. It’s like my home. If you want to get close to my thoughts, like meeting me for coffee, that’s where to go.

I also talk about my NFT collections there. One of my earliest, The Glitch Dreams Rave, is an unfinished, story-driven series of cards shaped by the collectors themselves. Each card is a memory from this fictional rave, and I can only finish the collection as those memories find their rightful owners and flesh out new parts of an ongoing story. I wish more people explored that side of it. The interactive, strange, and kind of weird fun side.

GLITCH DREAMS INTRODUCTION (ROAD MAP)

GLITCH DREAMS STORY

Maral: Do you have a certain story or project in mind that you’re holding onto for “someday”?

Yes, too many, honestly. NFTs have pushed me to think bigger, especially when it comes to building collections and telling stories through them. I have so many photos and ideas just sitting on hard drives. But I tend to move slowly, because if I release something new before an older collection has sold, it weighs on me a bit. It feels like I’m leaving something unfinished behind.

A Collection of People In Cars has been brewing for a while now.

A Collection of People in Cars is Coming… eventually

Maral: Has a creative dry spell ever led to something unexpectedly good?

I was in a shooting dry spell leading into/during Covid. I wasn’t going out much with my camera. That time period and some other things going on in my life led me to the doorstep of NFTs in March of 2021. My first NFT collection was titled “The Bitcoin Dream“. It was basically photos I mashed together in PS and then ran through Corel Painter filters, and then back to PS warp tool. They were crude and experimental, but everything felt like a big experiment at the time.

Maral: Can you tell us what your absolute favourite work is, that you have done, and why?

It’s hard. It might change from today to tomorrow. I am indecisive and struggle to create a portfolio or pick my best anything. Let’s say I pick something; this is my favourite. I mint it, and say come collect my best work ever. Then I’m shilling it for 10 weeks because nobody sees it like I do. By the tenth week, I’m feeling like, oh fuck, you again. I have to share you… again. UGH…

I do love my “Dimensions Under the Pier” collection, though. I feel close to it.

Maral: What’s your “perfect chill evening” recipe — snacks, setting, music?

There’s a little fire in the backyard, or maybe I’m just sitting at my computer, going over photos. Either way, pretty simple. The fewer people, the better lol. Probably a mix of 90’s grunge, indy, folk, classic rock, whatever, I love music. Esp. a big fan of Tori Amos, the piano seems perfect for a chill evening. I like to have a beer, maybe all Day IPA when I’m going for a chill evening. Snacks, hmm, something Mexican, like a homemade salsa or cheese dip is delicious.

Thanks Maral
